I truly believe Marlin 1895 SBL offers excellent value for its price. This firearm feels like a time machine that goes from one generation to another, bringing together both old technology and modern art and research. The feeling it gives you when you shoot makes it all worth it.
The SBL is practical and modern, using a proven design. It should be judged based on all these. Ruger didn’t try to recreate an old Marlin. Instead, the company impressed with its popular forward thinking attitude and gave us a modern rifle for the 21st century, great for medium and close distance big game.
After a few years of confusion, Ruger has definitely done the Marlin name proud. The 1895 SBL is sturdy and well made. It has amazing functionality and enhances the classic Marlin style with some modern features. I think Ruger should be proud of this rifle, ideal for those looking for a big game lever gun
I am breathing a big sigh here because Ruger has met my expectations. Ruger rescued Marlin from bankruptcy and disappearance. The brand has easily reincarnated Marlin as a gun maker of the 21st century, and the 1895 SBL is the perfect example.
The New Marlins aren’t just pretty faces. They run nicely as well. I've put different .45-70 loads through them, whether from Remington, Hornady, Barnes, Federal, or Winchester. The gun cycles all of them with no issues at all.
